Cookin’ on 3 Burners – Soul Messin’

Been searching for this one since late June when it dropped. Goods arrived today! The first Cookin’ on 3 Burners album Baked, Broiled, and Fried was hella tasty in the groove department, and I don’t doubt in the least bit that this one isn’t seasoned in the same way.

Nothin’ messy about this platter here. The fellas are tighter than ever and serve up another offering of massively funky grooves! The core combo features organ, guitar, and drums with occasional horns added. Most numbers here step off with a really badass instrumental groove that runs from mod 60s-soul to gritty 70s-funk with a few jazzy riffs thrown into the mix from time to time, ‘specially on the organ lines. Kylie Auldist brings in some deep soul vocals on two tracks and Fallon Williams sings on two more. The whole thing’s got a lively, upbeat groove and an all-classic sound that’s like finding a pile of rare funky 45s stashed away in the back of a dusty old record shop. Dig in!
