The Doorway of Mixed Ideologies

A case of confusion in Baan Dtah Sae, Trang

Baan Dtah Sae, Trang

The royal flag of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej commemorating his 80th birthday (left), H.M. King Chulalongkorn and Luang Paw Ri Sut Toh (above center), and a door emblazoned with a swastika (center). I understand that this is the mirror image of the the one used on the Nazi flag and there are various meanings for this symbol, but……what was your first impression of this picture? Yeah, me too.

At first glance, alarming. But, from Wiki: Archaeological evidence of swastika-shaped ornaments dates from the Neolithic period and was first found in the Indus Valley Civilization of the Indian Subcontinent. It occurs today in the modern day culture of India, sometimes as a geometrical motif and sometimes as a religious symbol; it remains widely used in Eastern and Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

Cheers, and thanks or the music.
